In-Home Baby Boy Lifestyle Newborn Session

This is a throwback to one of my favorite in-home sessions that I have done that I never blogged! This cute seattle family had the most gorgeous neutral colored home and outfits. This baby boy’s gender-neutral nursery was absolutely perfect with bright white walls and some boho touches here and there. I loved the white, natural wood, and muted aqua colors all put together. It also had a subtle world traveler theme that made it perfect for this little boy.

It was stunning and I was obsessed!

Sometimes during newborn sessions we need to take some time to help baby get to sleep. This was definitely the case in this session, which is totally expected! It’s baby’s first modeling gig, we can’t expect them to be perfectly sleepy he entire time.

So here and there we would stop and let him nurse, or just rock him back and forth. I actually love photographing some of these ‘behind the scenes’ pictures as well because that is the essence of newborn life, right?

That is what lifestyle sessions are all about. Capturing you in your element. I love them because each one is unique and special in their own way.

I always gauge what to start photographing at the beginning of a lifestyle session depending on how baby is doing. Usually if the parents have kept the baby awake for at least an hour, feed him right before we start, and keep the house super warm, then baby is super sleepy and ready for his solo shots, so that is where I start.

However if baby is still needing some help going to sleep, I’ll do the mom & baby photos first while she rocks him and cuddles him to sleep, then the family photos, then switch baby over to dad’s arms and do dad & baby, then if baby is zonked out, I’ll do baby photos last. Sometimes I’ll break it up if all of a sudden baby is super sleepy and it is a great time to do his solo shots. The way I test for this is called the ‘arm drop’. If you lift up their arm and drop it and there is no resistance, chances are that newborn is ready to model!

I always leave lots of room for creativity as well. Every person’s home is different and the natural window lighting plays a huge role in where I place my family and the angles I will come from. This house had beautiful natural lighting and the sun came out right at the beginning of a session so it was an absolute dream!

If you can’t tell by the way I’m describing this shoot, it was every newborn photographer’s dream. Everything came together perfectly and this family was so fun to interact with and capture their cute personalities!! The way they looked at their sweet new baby boy was the epitome of pure joy and I think you’ll see that in these photos.

Here are a few of my favorites, enjoy!!
